TWAIN HARTE ROTARY - Local Projects
Rotary was founded on February 23,1905 by Paul Harris in Chicago. Rotary International, the governing body of all Rotary Clubs was formed in 1922. As of December 1, 2008 there were 32,700 Rotary Clubs and an estimated 1,230,000 Rotarians in more than 200 countries and geographical regions. The Twain Harte Rotary Club was chartered on February 18, 1952. Some of the projects undertaken by the Twain Harte club are as follows:
. Purchase & installation of metal street signs at every intersection in Twain Harte.
. Constructed a baseball field with backstop & bleachers.
. Decorated the large Christmas tree near the Arch.
. *Holds the annual BBQ
. Constructed a rock wall around the Christmas tree near the Arch and landscaped the
area.
. *Holds the annual Easter Egg Hunt.
. Sponsored the first Little League Baseball teams in Tuolumne County. . Developed a parking lot at the ball field.
. Built & maintained for many years, the restrooms at the ball field. . Built a tennis court near the ball field. . Purchased a bus to transport the Little League teams. . Installed lights at the ball field. . Sponsored the Twain Harte Golf Course. Donated labor & equipment. The first Board
of Directors were all Rotarians.
. Sponsored Career Counseling Days at Summerville High School. . *Sponsors a Scholastic Awards program for Summerville High students. . *Have purchased & maintained 60 folding tables & 400 folding chairs for community
use.
. Started the annual Crab Feed. . The Club maintained & paid taxes on Eproson Field until the formation of the Twain
Harte Recreation & Park District.
. * Sponsors two Summerville High students to attend a leadership camp. . With the cooperation of the Twain Harte Chamber of Commerce, the Twain Harte
Women's Club & other local service organizations the Rotary Club purchased &
installed the 1950s Arch.. .since that time the club has worked on every Arch. . Purchased and helped maintain the original playground equipment at the park. . Constructed sidewalks in Twain Harte. . Constructed the Snack Shack at the ball field.
. Built a footbridge over Twain Harte Creek & a path from the bridge to the ballpark. . Installed school bus stop shelters. . With the Summerville High Booster Club, built a residence to be sold to pay for lights
at the Summerville High football field. . * Sponsors Cub Scout Pack 71.
. Constructed stage at the Park where "Concerts in the Pines" are held. . *Do monthly food distributions in conjunction with ATCAA. . *Hold a BBQ, with Soroptimists, for Summerville High's annual Freshman
Orientation.
. *Hold a BBQ for students at Summerville High's Sober Graduation. . ^Donates money & labor to other service groups serving our community.
*An annual or ongoing Rotary project.
