Foundation Supports
County Needs
Mick Grimes, Executive Director of the Sonora Area Foundation, brought members up to date on the Foundation’s “doings” at Wednesday’s November 28 meeting.
Grimes explained that the Foundation, which has a corpus in excess of 26 million dollars, is using a recently completed Community Idicators Project report to identify community conditions, goals and set planning goals.
Irving Symons founded the Sonora Area Foundation in 1990 with a five million dollar gift from Elaine Symons. It was later boosted by
another 18 million dollar bequest from Irving
Symons. The Foundation provides a vehicle for philanthropy in Tuolumne County and is supported by more than 200 donor funds.
Cookies, Calendars
On Sale Friday
Gingerbread cookies and the Twain Harte Calendars will be on sale Friday night December 7th during the annual Christmas Parade.
Jeannie will open the Sportsman for the sale and she has also offered free coffee as an enticement to get folks in the door to buy the special items.
Cookie decorating will begin at 10 a.m. at BJ’s house.
Be at the Sportsman by 5 p.m. if you want to help sell the cookies and calendars.
Rotary Gives Thanks
The Community Christmas Dinner is set for December 8th and it will take
everyone’s help to make it a success.
President Donna wanted to reinstate a Community Dinner, which was held a number of years ago in Twain Hart,e as a way of thanking community members and visitors for their support of Rotary through the years.
The dinner will be held at Black Oak School from 4 p.m. till 7 p.m. on Saturday, December 8th. The dinner will be free, however donations will be accepted. Santa is expected to put in an appearance and the Bear Tones, the barbershop harmony group from Summerville High, will be singing holiday favorites.
Turkey, dressing, potatoes, green beans and dessert are all on the dinner menu.
Work assignments will be finalized next Wednesday.
